Artist Statement: "My work is informed by my nomadism between countries, languages and ways of seeing or thinking. This immersion in various cultures has nourished my creative process. Being 'out of place' and wanting to 'fit in' led me to explore the narratives of the place. Part of my work is done with objects that physically and culturally reflect my own transplantation.
"Maps, phonebooks, books, photographs, collected objects are source materials used to describe the elusive meanings of places and my relation to them. My art is a way to investigate the surrounding world and in the making, try to make sense of my place in it." |

Ruminate (Red)
By Viviane Rombaldi Seppey
New York: Viviane Rombaldi Seppey, 2019. One-of-a-Kind.
10.25 x 55" extended; 8 panels. Concertina structure with four folds. Materials: transfer image, plastic bags, cardboard, Housed in 10.5 x 7 x 3" presentation box.
Viviane Rombaldi Seppey: "In 'Ruminate' I address the question of consumerism and its impact on life and environment. The imagery is a picture taken of a cow’s skull printed on paper. Between the jawbones, I added found plastic bags to recall grass. The cow skull alludes to animal farming, and the plastic suggests micro-plastic particles infiltrating water and environment. The title itself is a pun and an open question to environmental blight."

Flying Words
By Viviane Rombaldi Seppey
New York: Viviane Rombaldi Seppey, 2014. One-of-a-Kind.
10 x 15 x 2 inches open altered book. Materials: thread, recycled dictionary. Housed in box.
Viviane Rombaldi Seppey: "'Flying Words' results in a reflection about language, communication and knowledge. Using the concertina form, escaping from a book, [allowed] me to give a moving quality to the artwork and imply that what we read or see is in a constant state of flux towards the others and in the making of our memory."
