Janet Goldner ~ New York

Janet Goldner: "I create works which bring the together art and poetry by cutting images and texts into formed steel sculptures using a welding torch as a drawing instrument. I cut letters, geometric patterns, images thru the surface of the steel. Light passes through the craggy holes that form the letters and the images. The steel gives the verbal and visual messages an urgency and permanency. I combine the tactile, spatial forms of sculpture with elegant, succinct comments on contemporary social issues."

Can We Heal?
By Janet Goldner
New York, New York: Building Bridges Press, 2000.

7 x 9"; 16-page catalogue. Photographs by Gintaras Karosas.

Janet Goldner: "Photobook about [my] sculptural steel book that was inspired by a trip through Poland and the Ukraine where I visited the towns my grandparents emigrated from. An outgrowth of my ongoing series of smaller steel books, this large scale work asks in Lithuanian and English, 'Can we heal from the wounds of our tortured history? Lithuanians, Russians, Poles, Germans, Jews, Everyone.' It is part of the permanent collection of Europos Parkas, an outdoor sculpture museum in Lithuania."
